Book Character Costumes – October 30th
For Halloween, Herty Primary students may dress up in a book-character inspired costume on Friday, October 30th. Click on “read more” for some sample costumes reflecting some of our student’s favorite books! Get creative with your costume ideas and/or check out Pinterest for lots of fun ways to dress up!
Picture Day – Nov. 4th
Individual pictures will be taken Wednesday, November 4th. Please check your students’ backpack for more information.

Friday Prize Patrol Visits Mrs. Jack’s Class
Assistant Principal Amanda Gentry celebrates Friday’s with the Prize Patrol Cart. Students are rewarded with prizes for various brags, such as top dojo earner, most improved dojo earner, reaching the 25, 50 or 75 book goal in AR or being an awesome citizen at Herty Primary. The kids love hearing their name called over the announcements and getting a prize from the Patrol!
Pumpkin Carving with Mrs. Cobb’s Class
Mrs. Cobb’s first grade has been learning about pumpkins and wrapped up the week by carving one. Click on “read more” to see more pictures of students scraping and scooping out the strands and seeds from their pumpkin.
First Grade Fall Fun
Herty first graders are rolling right along learning about nouns, writing about Halloween costumes and personal experiences, making connections, creating pumpkin/jackolantern art and addition and subtraction. Click on “read more” to see samples of their work.
Stewart Surprises SPED!!
Brad Stewart, with LISD Technology Department, graciously funded a grant for Ms. Tobin and Ms. Tierney’s Special Education classes at Herty Primary. The grant provided two iPads and Think & Learn Smart Cycles to support kinesthetic learning. Mr. Stewart, THANK YOU for your generosity! Our teachers had no idea he was going to do this for them. Dunn’s Pumpkin Project

World Teacher Day

Accelerated Reading off to a Great Start
Student’s at Herty Primary are reading and testing in the Accelerated Reading Program. These 2nd grader’s are recognized for their efforts on the Mario Bros “Level Up” bulletin board. As each student meets his/her reading goal, they are rewarded with their name on the cloud. As the year progresses, we’ll see many students move across this interactive reading-comprehension game board. Click on “read more” for more pictures.

Honoring Officer Tamesha Forest

Grant Recipient Mr. James Wade – Bit Coding Robot
The “grant patrol” visited Herty this morning. We are excited to be the recipient of one grant winner, James Wade, Bit Coding Robot Parade. The Bit Coding Robot Parade utilizing Bit Bots will help create engaging lessons for special education students at Herty Primary. The students will draw characters from a story and tape them to the tops of the robot. They will draw out the character plot to show where the character went and what the character did. The robots will also be used in math curriculum and building critical thinking skills.
Mrs. Aunchalee Brings the Library to Students
Covid restrictions won’t keep our kids from getting library books! Mrs. Aunchalee rolls her cart to the students at Herty Primary. Click on “read more” for pictures of a student checking in his Accelerated Reader books and getting new ones.
Teacher Feature: Mrs. Angie Fuller
Angie Fuller is a difference maker. She works with students who have learning disabilities at Herty Primary in a Content Mastery class where every day she provides support to Kindergarten through 2nd grade children.
Bus Riders Must Wear Masks
All students riding the bus MUST wear their masks! Please talk to your child about keeping their masks handy. Responsibility is key here.
Connect To Class DOJO
Please connect to your child’s class through DOJO. Invitations to join the class have been sent through email and/or text. Herty Primary uses DOJO for class stories, assignments, reminders, personal private messages and point systems for behavior. Check any email or phone number that has been given during registration!
Pickles for Herty Staff
Mrs. Glenda Keel, mother to Principal Jill Riggs, makes some awesome pickles every year. She grows a beautiful garden and she shares her bounty with us here at Herty! Thank you, Mrs. Keel, for catering to the staff at Herty Primary.
