In previous years we have had many wonderful Black History Programs. This year is a little different, as we are continuing to be extra cautious with Covid, but this year will not disappoint! Our virtual program has many moving pieces that were put together. We hope you enjoy the work put in by students and staff. We are pleased to announce our guest speaker, Dr. Daniel Spikes. Enjoy!

The Spring Book Fair is here with fresh choices of books, journals, posters, Spy Pens and more! This is a great opportunity to stock up on books for Spring Break reading! If you don’t want to send cash, there is an eWallet option that is easy to set up for students to shop within a budget. Parents, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Godparents and Friends are welcome to open up an eWallet account to support your special kiddo in reading. There is also an Online shopping option, for thousands of book titles to choose from. Whether in person, or online shopping, shopping for new books is fun and exciting for those of all ages!

We have had some parents ask how they can help their students at home with music. We use a program called Quaver and each student has their own account. The photo attached lists some different tools they can use to help them on recorder, rhythms, and reading music. They should be able to log in with their Classlink.

Students will have an extra long weekend, and return on TWOSday.

Parents for African American Academic Success will be held at the Convention Center. Friday, Feb 11 at 6pm is a meet and greet. The actual symposium will be Saturday, Feb 12th from 9am to 2pm. Lunch will be provided. Join the Black Lufkin alumni and Lufkin area residents to share stories and talk about their careers in various areas. You will not want to miss these exciting events for community, lunch and door prizes!

Covid cases are beginning to decline. The numbers are posted every afternoon. LISD will assess the numbers and make a decision whether on February 7th “Masks are Required,” or “Masks are Suggested.” Stay tuned.

Be on the lookout for an article in the Lufkin Daily News! Our very own 3rd grader, Emmaly Olivares, won 1st place, out of over a hundred MLK poster entries. It should also be noted that this contest was open to all LISD students grades 3-5! We are so proud of our Brandon Bears, Emmaly and the second place winner, Janelle! #BrandonPrideNeverDies

If you are a parent of a 5th grader, you will not want to miss out on the Lufkin Middle School information night! Your child will be in middle school soon! This is a great opportunity to ask questions, and help in preparation for the transition. You are invited to the LMS auditorium February 1st at 6:00pm.

The grade level who had the most extra change in the Book Fair ”All for Books” boxes would be able to challenge the principals in a game of Simon Says during lunch. Our 4th grade students came up with some fun commands! “Simon Says Dance your weirdest dance.” ”Simon Says Dance like a chicken.”

Please remember that another wave of COVID is probable after so many have traveled and rightfully enjoyed time with friends and family. We ask that as a precaution of the spread, that students and teachers wear a mask to school. Let’s minimize illness and finish the school year strong!

Please arrange for your child to have transportation at 12:00 Noon on Friday. We want to wish all a happy and safe Christmas break. Students will return to school on Wednesday, January 5, 2022.

Brandon Elementary Student Council members worked hard advertising, selling, assembling the Halloween Grams, and it brought in $200 towards the Brandon Elementary Scholarship fund. These scholarships are awarded to Lufkin High Seniors that attended Brandon Elementary. Once a Brandon Bear, Always a Brandon Bear! Thank you for your support in this fundraiser, as well as spreading good cheer! We hope the Christmas Grams are equally, or even more successful!

In our Twelve Days of Christmas, PAJAMA DAY is 12-7-21!!! What a better way to celebrate, than to have pictures with Santa?!?! You don’t want to miss this opportunity. You may purchase pictures by simply filling out the order form and return it tomorrow! Forms will come home with your student today, or you can print it from here!!!

Please help us by donating non-perishable food items to help benefit those in need.

Student Council members will collect donations after morning announcements each day.

Upon returning from Thanksgiving break, where many people gathered together far and near, We hope you can find your mask, to keep safe, those we hold dear.

For Diabetes Awareness, and support for a fellow Brandon Bear, students and staff wore blue and donated a dollar for diabetes. For more information and pictures of the day, please see the article posted by Sheila Adams.

Was your student absent on picture day? If they did not receive a picture, there is another opportunity on December 10th for picture retakes. If you were not satisfied with the 1st picture, return the packet, and take advantage of the 2nd chance on the 10th of December.
