Love Lufkin Service Sunday by FBC

Way to Go! Herty Kids Made It Snow!
Herty students accepted a challenge recently. A $2,000 goal was set for the scholastic book fair and our kids met that goal with gusto! In reward for meeting that goal, the students were treated to a snowball fight. Mrs. Riggs and Miss Gilbert were bombarded with shaving-cream snow and fluffy, fleecy snowballs. A Day in the Dirt – Handicapable Rodeo
Students from Herty’s PPCD department will be attending “A Day in the Dirt” rodeo in Jasper, Texas in October. Check back later for pictures of the event!

Lufkin ISD Police Officers, Chief Jay Jost, Tamesha Forrest and Gilbert Tinajero, are staffing Herty’s front office! Thank you, officers, for all you do …… all day, everyday!

Mrs. Jamie Makes Learning Fun!

Literacy Night 2019
We had a great turn-out for Literacy Night at Herty Primary! Students and parents visited booths of ADAC, HEB, Herty PTKK; they enjoyed popcorn popped by the Angelina College Men’s basketball team. They also played numerous literacy-based games and visited the Scholastic Book Fair. Kona Ice was also on location selling snow-cones for this Artic Adventure themed occasion.

Whataburger Fundraiser
Help our campus raise money. Please plan on eating at Whataburger on Timberland on October 17th!

Early Release – September 25th
Students will be dismissed early at 12:00 Noon on September 25th. All staff will have professional development.

An Arctic Adventure Book Fair
An Arctic Adventure book fair is here!! There’s “snow” much to read! So, gather your money and plan on buying some great books at school next week. Click on read more for pictures of the library all set up for the book fair!

Big Kahuna Fundraiser
The Big Kahuna fundraiser has kicked off at Herty Primary. Students are selling a variety of items to raise money for their school. The money will go towards things such as playground equipment, PE equipment and/or technology. All fundraising money and order sheets will be due by September 20th.

Picture day is coming to Herty Primary September 20th. Free dress for picture day!

Labor Day Holiday
Monday, September 2nd is a school holiday. All students and staff will resume classes on Tuesday, September 3, 2019.

Grandparent’s Day
Grandparent’s Day was celebrated during lunch at Herty Primary. We are very blessed to have so many loving, caring grandparents within our school family! Click on “read more” for pictures of today’s special event.

LISD Education Foundation Awards Grants at Herty Primary
Congratulations to Lena Nickle, Tracy Morris, Kirby Bryce, Allyson Dunn, Nikki Neal and Amy Beaudion for receiving grants to enrich their classroom learning experiences! Mrs. Nickle & Mrs. Morris received the $1,478.29 Comfort with a Constant Hug grant. The money will go toward funding sensory items that will help kids deal with anxiety.
Mrs. Bryce was awarded an $895.94 grant, Listening in 2nd Grade,. This program is designed to help students who haven’t yet gained the ability to read.
Lastly, the Herty 2nd grade team, received a $3,780 grant to fund Osmo Innovators. Osmo is a program that hooks up to ipads and allows students to explore math, reading and science through different manipulations in the program. Click on “read more” for more pictures.

Open House
Herty Primary held Open House Tuesday, August 27th. We had a great turn-out; thank you, parents, for coming to visit with your child’s teachers. Click on “read more” to see pictures from our event.

First Day 2019
The 2019-2020 school year started with a red carpet welcome! Thank you to First Baptist Church, Lufkin Fire Department and LHS Varsity baseball players for volunteering to make our student’s first day back so much fun!

Inservice Days at Herty Primary
Herty staff is busy planning and preparing for the upcoming school year! Our first day of school is August 14, 2019. “Meet the Teacher” will be on August 12, 2019 from 3:00 ’til 5:00 PM. Shout-out to First Baptist Church for a delicious breakfast on our first day back! Also, a huge thanks to CHI St. Lukes’s Health – Memorial for another wonderful breakfast and gift pack (jumper-cables and tools!!!!) this week. Awards Assemblies
1st and 2nd grade awards assemblies were held for the 4th nine weeks. Click on “read more” for pictures of the event(s). Students presented songs, received many awards for citizenship, top dojo, Top Hornets, A-honor roll, A/B-honor roll, perfect attendance, 50-books, 100-books, 200-books read and two students received huge trophies for reading 300 or more books! These 2nd graders are ready for big things! Look out Coston!
