Herty staff supports the Pack in the fourth round of the playoffs by wearing Star Wars attire! The Panthers play in Nacogdoches at Homer Bryce Stadium against the Longview Lobos at 1:00 pm!! Come out and support our football team and PACK the stadium with PURPLE & GOLD!!

Turkey Trot Fun Run

Lufkin ISD held their 6th annual “Turkey Trot” for special needs students at Abe Martin Stadium. Primary and elementary aged students participated in the fun-filled event. The Turkey Trot began with a race across a field, through a creek and to the finish line. Next, the students were treated to donuts, bananas, juice and water. Then the students completed numerous obstacle course stations on John Outlaw Field at Abe Martin Stadium. Thank you, Jerri Kay Boyd, for planning, organizing and hosting this for the kids! Also, thank you to LHS students who volunteered to help our precious children!!

Veteran’s Day Program

Herty Primary celebrated Veteran’s Day! Music teacher Miss Whitney Hogue and her 2nd graders performed numerous patriotic songs to honor all Veterans. Thank you Miss Hogue for a wonderful performance. Special thanks to high school students: Eagle Scouts Andy Durrett and Kyle Rayburn for the presentation of our US and Texas flags. Also, drummer Ivan Acevedo along trumpet players, Skylar Chunn and Reed Drapela for their contribution to our program as well.

Chili’s Fundraiser – Nov. 14th

Let Chili’s do the cooking on Tuesday, November 14th. From 11 am til 11 pm, Chili’s will donate 15% of sales to Herty Primary with the flyer (that will come home with your child/student). So plan to come out and eat at Chili’s as they generously give back to our school!

Thanksgiving Feast – 11/15/17

Herty Primary will have a Thanksgiving Feast on November 15th. Families are welcome to come eat with their student. The cafeteria will be serving a delicious traditional Thanksgiving meal of ham, turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans, fruit and a roll! Please come out and enjoy lunch with your child.

1st Nine Weeks Awards Assembly

Herty 1st and 2nd graders received numerous awards last week after completing their first nine weeks of school. Students received awards for Good Citizenship, Top Dojo, All A Honor Roll, A/B Honor Roll and Perfect Attendance. Keep up the great work students!

Box Tops for Education Competition

Start collecting those Box Tops!! Raid grandma’s pantry ……. check with your favorite aunt ……. and ask your neighbors to cut each box top for Herty Primary! Keep them in a baggie and send them to school periodically. Each class will be competing for top honors by collecting the most box tops.

Herty's running club has been practicing for a few weeks and will compete with other primary schools across the district. On Wednesday, October 25th, our Herty runners will travel to Abe Martin Stadium for this event! Good luck to our Herty Hornets! Run, Herty, Run!!

Ms. Bennett’s 2nd Grade Science Experiment

Angela Bennett’s second graders have been learning about matter and mass in science. Ms. Bennett challenged her students to think about what would happen if vinegar and baking soda were combined. After writing their hypothesis in their lab report, the class went outside to conduct their experiment. The students then wrote and drew about their findings! #HertyHasHeart #LufkinLearns

Literacy Night Fun

Herty’s Wild West Literacy Night was such a boot scootin’ success. The evening was filled with pool noodle horse races, cowboy-style hula-hooping, vowel sound bean bag tossing, milking a cow, roping a steer along with a little coloring of bookmarks, sight word writing and shopping the book fair! Thanks to all parents, kiddos and Herty staff for coming out!
