Oh What-a-Night
Herty families and friends came out in full fundraising mode tonight. Thank you to all who came and dined at Whataburger on Timberland. A big thank you goes out to Chris Johnson of GVCS Inc. for hosting this fundraiser and giving a portion of profits to our school!

Beaudion’s Mystery Motivator
Mrs. B’s first grade class was challenged earlier this school year to fill the “Team Jar”. The students were recognized as Mrs. B witnessed kindness, team work, awesome effort, great behavior, and just about anything that instilled great values! She promised a great prize and promoted the effort with her mystery motivator. Well, her kiddos rose to the occasion and filled that jar last week. As promised, Mrs. B bought the class a cool blue & silver beta complete with tank, rocks, tank toys, etc. It’s a great day to be in Mrs. B’s class! Good job, kiddos!

Tillar’s Popsicle Party
Good behavior pays off! Mrs. Tillar’s Kindergartener’s earned a popsicle party for being awesome for her substitute teacher on Friday!

Enchanted Forest Literacy Night 2018
Literacy night was a HUGE success. Thanks to Mrs. Aunchalee Whisenant and her family, HEB, the Alcohol & Drug Abuse Council, and the Angelina College Roadrunner basketball team, our kids had a blast! Lastly, thank you Herty staff for creating such an enchanting evening for the kids and their families!

Enchanted Forest Book Fair 2018
Herty’s fall bookfair Enchanted Forest will be October 1st through October 5th! Click on “read more” for a sneak preview of the library set up for this fun event. On Tuesday, October 4th, we will host an Enchanted Literacy Night! Please plan on coming to the school to visit the bookfair, play a few literacy games and visit with your child’s teacher. Hope to see you on the 4th!

September Staff Luncheon
Shout out to First Baptist Church volunteers for cooking for our Herty staff! We were blessed with hot dogs & nachos and all the trimmings. There were too many desserts to count! Also in observance of National Thank a Police Officer Day, many district police officers and administrators joined us for lunch that day!

Early Release, Wed., September 26
Students will be dismissed at 12 noon on September 26th. Staff will have professional development.

Oh What-a-Night Fundraiser
Mark your calendars and plan on eating at Whataburger on October 11th! Whataburger on Timberland will be the place to be.
Herty Primary will receive a portion of proceeds from sales from 5:00 til 8:00 pm. Please make plans to join the Herty family on October 11th!

Fundraiser Kickoff
Herty’s fundraiser has begun. Your student should have brought home the fundraiser package already. Please sell, sell, sell if you can! Safety is most important, so please assist you child with all sales – DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO GO DOOR TO DOOR WITHOUT YOU! The fundraiser will close on September 287h.

Goodies with Grandparents 2018
Herty Primary celebrated National Grandparents Day with goodies and GRAND crowd. Our campus was overflowing with grandparents and other family members, who enjoyed cookies & punch along with lots of picture-taking. Urgent Message – Please Read
HERTY PARENTS: A suspicious man was seen walking in front of the campus earlier and for precautionary measures, students were kept indoors. Lufkin Police Department reports that the man has been detained and all is clear.

Education Foundation Surprises Herty at Town Hall Meeting
Herty students gathered for their first Town Hall Meeting. Principals Jill Riggs and Tonya Turnage discussed behavior expectations in the cafeteria and at dismissal times. Students demonstrated the “peace and quiet” sign and helped problems-solve as teachers modeled specific disruptive behavior. As the meeting was closing, Lufkin ISD’s Education Foundation Prize Patrol arrived, complete with the LHS drumline and cheerleaders, to present a check to our first grade teachers for implementation of a First Grade Garden..

Goodies with Grandparents
In honor of Grandparents Day, on Friday, September 7th, Herty Primary welcomes all grandparents to come to school and enjoy a treat with their special grandchild!
Students will enjoy goodies with their Grandparents at 1:00 pm in the cafeteria. We hope to see you on September 7th!

Open House

Welcome back from Principal Jill Riggs!
Herty is home to Kindergarten through 2nd grade and the district’s PPCD program. Our caring staff is committed to creating daily experiences that provide opportunities for each child to reach their potential academically, socially, and emotionally.

That’s a Wrap!
Herty Primary celebrated the end of the school year with a Saturday-workday! The staff was treated to a wonderful breakfast by Calvary Baptist Church. Many, many thanks to these special ladies, not only for the breakfast, but for praying over us, our students and our school families. We are so blessed to have spiritual warriors intervening for our school daily. Bring on summer!

End of Year Awards Assembly
Herty Primary celebrated student accomplishment with end of the year awards. Awards were given for Honor Roll, Perfect Attendance, Book Club(s), Library Star, Special Olympics Participants and helpers, etc. It’s been a great year at Herty Primary!

1st Grade Reading Awards Party
First graders were treated to an ice cream sundae party for reaching reading goals of 75 (plus) books.

Thank you Brookshire Brothers for providing breakfast for us! We love surprises — especially when it comes to food!

and the winner is …
The red carpet was rolled out and students showed up in style for the glamorous Herty Book Awards! Our Reading Lab ladies read quite a collection of books throughout the school year and Herty students voted on several favorites ….. from Best Non-Fiction, Best Illustrator, Funniest, Saddest to Favorite Author. The entire student body participated in the big event and were treated to choosing books to take home for summer reading! Herty Primary truly has heart!

Young Athletes Program
Herty Primary hosted Special Olympics in the gym and outdoors at the Herty campus. Students were climbing through hula hoops, riding bikes, jumping through bubbles and having a wonderful time. To help out, some Lufkin Middle School students and Herty 2nd grade students volunteered to show the special needs children the ropes and buddy up with them.
