Hornet’s Nest Cafe
This awesome group of 2nd graders was chosen by their teachers to eat lunch with Herty Counselor Mrs. Callie Hunt in the Hornets Nest Cafe. Keep up the great work and effort kiddos.

Harlem Wizards Visit Herty Primary
The Harlem Wizards are a show basketball entity delivering wildly successful fundraiser events for schools and nonprofits, last season alone playing in over 400 communities across the USA, while raising over $2 million. According to the organization’s website, the Wizards started in 1962 by New York sports promoter Howie Davis, and now celebrate 56 years of Wizardry.
The famous Harlem Wizards will perform in Lufkin tonight, Jan. 22, 2019, at Lufkin Middle School gym at 6:30 pm.

MLK Day, School Holiday, Jan. 21, 2019
Lufkin ISD will celebrate Martin Luther King’s birthday as a school holiday. School will resume on Tuesday, January 22, 2019. The picture attached is of a writing piece by Jade in Miss Dunn’s 2nd grade class.

UIL Storytelling 2019

Missing a Coat or Jacket?
Parents …. please put your child’s name in her/his coat with a permanent marker. We have many jackets on the “lost and found” rack in the hallway in the main wing. ALL of these jackets/coats DO NOT HAVE A NAME IN THEM!!! If your child is missing a coat, have him or her check the rack to see if it has been “found”.

Mobile Dairy Visits Herty Primary
Herty Primary students experienced a very unique lesson this week. Southwest Dairy Farmers brought a a milk cow to the school and enlightened our students on the value and nutrition of milk along with a lesson on where, when and how milk is gathered and produced! Students learned that the Jersey cow produces milk. They learned that there are six different breeds of dairy cows. Students witnessed the jersey be electronically milked while the milk collected into a tank on the mobile dairy. Click on “read more” to see a gallery of pictures from this fun learning journey.

2019
Welcome back to school Herty family! We are happy to be back into the swing of things! The halls are showing signs of Winter. From fractions and published writing in 2nd grade, 100 charts and skip counting in 1st grade, to snowflakes and winter activities in Kindergarten, Herty students are working hard! Christmas Celebration 2018
Herty Primary wrapped up the first semester of the school year with Christmas breakfast. Click on “read more” for many pictures of our last day of 2018. Students return to school on January 8, 2019.

Merry Kinder-mas Program

STEM 2018
LMS 6th graders visited Herty 2nd grade to teach them about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). LMS math teacher Dana Baker brought about 24 students to model scientific method and mentor our 2nd graders with science-related Christmas and winter activities.

December Luncheon
First Baptist Church treated our Herty staff to a catered lunch by LaUnica! Staff members enjoyed their choice of beef or chicken fajitas, rice and beans with all the trimmings. THANK YOU First Baptist! Kudos to Bridget Grubb for her delicious, beautifully-decorated Christmas sugar cookies! The luncheon was awesome!

Staff Christmas Party
Herty staff had their annual Christmas party recently at Ashley Self’s house. The staff enjoyed an evening of great food, friendship and painting. Thank you Ashley for hosting us.

Partying Big Kahuna Style
Top sellers in the Big Kahuna fundraiser were rewarded with a trip on the party bus. TheWe top-selling students traveled around Lufkin, dancing (in seatbelts of course), and eating at CiCi’s Pizza!

November Luncheon
Herty staff enjoyed a traditional Thanksgiving lunch complete with turkey, ham and all the trimmings! Many thanks to First Baptist Church for providing food, cooking, setting up and decorating for our special lunch. We were abundantly blessed (two days in a row)!

Thanksgiving Break 11/19/19 -11/23/18
