They should be able to read and write by the end of the 1st Nine Weeks:

Letter knowledge and sounds

By the end of the 1st Nine Weeks:

• Students must name at least 20-25 upper case and/or lowercase letters.

• Students must know at least 8 or more sounds of the letter from the alphabet.

Writing

Students must do independently by the end of 1st Nine Weeks:

• Control pencil grasp, use pincer control to manipulate tools etc.

• Independently use letters or symbols to make words or parts of words

• Write their own name

• Generate ideas for writing through class discussions (with teacher assistance)

• Use phonological knowledge to match sounds to letters (beginning sounds)

• Speaks in complete sentences to communicate

• Publish and share (with adult assistance)

Math

1st Nine Weeks:

• Reading, writing, counting and comparing numbers 1-10.

• Recognizing numbers 1-10 (out of order)

• Vocabulary: More, greater, less, fewer
