R2 GEAR UP has fourteen Lufkin Middle School eighth grade students selected to participate in the GeoFORCE Academy for the next four summers.R2 GEAR UP has fourteen Lufkin Middle School eighth grade students selected to participate in the GeoFORCE Academy for the next four summers.
GeoFORCE is a partner out of the UT Austin Jackson School of Geosciences that provides summer academies which introduce GEAR UP students to geological wonders throughout the United States.

Do you love swimming? Are you ready to dive into some fun?
Lufkin Middle School is starting a 7th & 8th Grade Club Swim Team soon!
Come out to our parent meeting on either February 26th or 28th at 6:30 pm in Room 709 to get all the splashy details. It’s your chance to make waves and join a team where fun and fitness swim together.

UT Austin’s R2 GEAR UP Summer Programs in 2024
GEAR UP for College Summer Camp (June 17th-21st): Spend five fun days like a college student, where you’ll learn cool stuff about getting ready for high school and college, work on team projects, and build skills that will make you a superstar student and friend.
Dell Med Health Sciences Summer Camp (July 8th-12th): Love science and helping people? At this camp, you get to do real science experiments, hang out with doctors and nurses, and learn how to save lives with CPR training!
GeoFORCE: Imagine going on an adventure across the country to check out amazing mountains and rivers, all while learning about the Earth. Itβs like being a science detective with your friends!
Texas A&M University Construction Science Academy: Ever wonder how buildings are made? Here you can learn all about it, meet people who build things for a living, and maybe even visit a construction site!
Youth Leadership Summit (July 21st-24th): Want to be the boss one day? This camp teaches you how to be a leader, work in a team, and make cool things happen in your community.
And guess what? Thereβs also a chance to get help with the costs for these summer camps. So if you’re excited to learn new things, meet new friends, and prepare for a bright future, check out these camps and get ready to have the best summer ever!

Are you in 5th or 6th grade and ready to dance your heart out? The Lufkin Middle School Panther Pom squad is looking for energetic and enthusiastic members for the 2024-2025 school year!
Join us for the informational meeting on Tuesday, February 27th at 6:30 PM in the LMS Cafeteria to get all the details.

The 2024-2025 LMS Drill Team tryouts are coming up! If you’re a current 7th grader with a passion for dance and teamwork, this is your chance to shine.
Don’t miss the informational meeting on February 29th at 6:30 PM in the LMS Cafeteria. It’s your opportunity to get all the details and ask any questions you may have.
Tryout packets are due by March 26th at 4 PM in the 8th-grade office. Make sure you get your packet turned in on time to secure your spot for tryouts.

Class of 2028 Lufkin Early College High School Applications
Applications for the Class of 2028 Lufkin Early College High School open February 5th and may be picked up at the Class of 2028 Parent Meeting being held at LHS.Β Any current Lufkin Middle School 8th grader may apply.
Applications may also be picked up from the LMS Office, LMS Gear-UP, or LMS Communities in Schools (CIS).
All applications are due to Mr. Leedy (at LMS) by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 16th.

Creative Holiday Spirit
This week, Ms. Bennett’s Girl Group unleashed their creativity at a ‘Painting with a Twist’ party. Each member painted her own unique Christmas masterpiece, blending colors and imagination to celebrate the festive season. This fun and artistic gathering not only nurtured their artistic talents but also fostered a sense of community and holiday spirit among the group. LMS Dress for Success Club Enjoys a Tasty Learning Experience at CiCi’s Pizza
The LMS Dress for Success Club recently had a fun and educational outing at CiCi’s Pizza. Our students not only had the fun experience of creating their own pizzas but also gained valuable insights into the food service industry. This hands-on learning experience was both enjoyable and informative, offering a glimpse into the world of culinary arts and restaurant management. A big thank you to CiCi’s Pizza for providing this wonderful opportunity to our students. It was a perfect blend of learning and delicious fun!
Ugly Sweater Contest
The halls of LMS were filled with holiday cheer and a dash of hilarious fashion during our Ugly Sweater Contest! Students and staff showcased their most outrageous holiday sweaters. Congratulations to our wonderfully ‘ugly’ winners: Karen Whitehead for ‘Ugly Sweater’, Lashan Proutt for ‘Uglier Sweater’, and Robbie Kuykendell for taking the top spot with the ‘Ugliest Sweater’. LMS Outdoor Club’s Adventure on Lanana Creek Hiking Trails
The LMS Outdoor Club recently embarked on a refreshing journey along the scenic Lanana Creek Hiking Trails. This excursion provided our students with a fantastic opportunity to connect with nature and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors.
