It’s day 5 of Red Ribbon Week!  We’re closing out this awareness series with a look at the misuse of prescription drugs among teens.  Check out some facts and statistics in the video below, looking at opioids, depressants, and stimulants.  Knowledge is power!

Did you know that The Coalition, serving Angelina County, partnered with local agencies to provide a way to help rid your cabinets of expired or no-longer-needed medications?  This is a huge step in making your home safe for students.  This service is free and anonymous, with no questions asked. 24/7 drop-off locations are available at the Diboll Police Department and the Angelina County Sheriff’s Department.  For more info, click here.

Red Ribbon Week may be coming to a close, but the conversations need to be ongoing.

For day 4 of Red Ribbon Week, we’re taking a look at marijuana use among high school students.  The data on the slides below is from the National Council of Drug Abuse Statistics.

Marijuana is one of the most commonly used illicit substances among youth.

Below are some resources for parents and students.  Research says that conversations in the home make the most impact when it comes to a teen deciding to use or not.

We’re celebrating bright futures today at LHS for Red Ribbon Week, as we talk about the statistics when it comes to high school students in Texas and underage drinking.

Did you know: Making alcoholic beverages available to a minor is a class A misdemeanor, punishable by a fine up to $4,000, confinement in jail for up to a year or both. www.tabc.texas.gov

We’re kicking off Red Ribbon Week today at LHS! The theme is “Sock it to Drugs” and there are lots of silly socks on campus.
Each day, we’ll be posting not-so-silly facts, that we would love for you to help us share! Knowledge is power! Head over to our Lufkin High School Facebook Group and hit the share button!
Today’s awareness focus is on FentanylDrugs may contain a deadly level of fentanyl. You cannot see, taste, or smell it. It is almost impossible to tell if a drug is laced with fentanyl unless tested with a fentanyl testing strip. Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 50–100 times more potent than morphine, often lethal with as little as 2 milligrams (TEA).
See the fact sheet for additional information, and talk to your student about these dangers.
