Lufkin High School’s varsity golf team placed fourth in the Lufkin Panther Invitational that it hosted last weekend at Crown Colony Country Club.
Highland Park won the team championship with a second round of 301 and two-day total 627. Tyler Legacy finished second with a 635, and Trinity Christian Academy was third with a 641. Lufkin was in position to contend after the first round, but didn’t make up enough ground and finished fourth with a total of 646.
Key Coker from Highland Park and Central’s Cameron Hubbard both shot a total of 147 to tie for first, and Coker won a playoff with two birdies to win top medalist. Lufkin’s Wil Stafford birdied five of his last six holes to shoot 72 and finish one shot out of the playoff, taking third medalist.
Other members of the LHS team included Michael Rasmussen, Sammy Henson, Ian Bostwick, Sloan Moss, K.J. Kruithof, JB McLeod and Dyllon Griffith.
Panthers Head Coach Lynn Hebert said his team wanted to thank all tournament sponsors and everyone who came out to support the Pack.
