2020 ASVAB Information for Students Interested in Military Service
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB test) is a timed multi-aptitude test, which is given at over 14,000 schools and Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS) nationwide and is developed and maintained by the Department of Defense.
Your scores in four critical areas (Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension and Mathematics Knowledge) count towards your Armed Forces Qualifying Test (AFQT) score. The AFQT score determines whether you’re qualified to enlist in the U.S. military.
It is approximately 3 hours and is composed of 8 subtests. Test results are sent to your school for you and your counselor to explore careers (this is called a post-test interpretation). You will also be given an interest inventory (Find Your Interests). Your ASVAB test results and “Find Your Interests” are tools for you to explore different occupations, identify a college major, and find out about your personality. Your Armed Forces Qualification Test score is reflected on your test results and can be used to enlist in any of the military services.
The ASVAB will be given at Lufkin High School on Wednesday, October 28 from 8:15 to 11:30. There is no cost to register for ASVAB. You need only to bring identification to the test. Calculators are not allowed. Pencils will be provided. No cell phones or electronic devices are allowed.
Registration forms are available for on campus learners in the Counseling Center or from Mrs. Guzman in the testing office, and should be turned in to Mrs. Guzman in A107 or Mrs. Brimmage in A108 by Thursday, October 15.
