Shout out to these ladies. Herty Primary is blessed to have such wonderful Administrative Assistants. These two keep our campus running smoothly and truly put the “heart” in our hashtag, #HertyHasHeart. Thank you for EVERYTHING Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. Gaitan-Ortega!
College Week at Herty Primary
It’s College Week at Lufkin ISD. Students are enlightened and encouraged on opportunities beyond high school. It’s never too early to promote higher education, whether it is college, trade school, armed forces or a university. Teachers are talking to the kids this week about their future and each class has their classroom door decorated to promote student success.
Fun Day – 1st and 2nd Grade

School Librarian’s Day
Today, we celebrate School Librarian’s Day at Herty Primary. Mrs. Aunchalee Whisenant is the bomb and works so hard to make reading fun! Thanks, Mrs. Whisenant for all you do for us at Herty!
Cook & Serve
A volunteer ministry led by LISD’s own Cindy Tierney with Lufkin’s First Methodist Church will provide a hot meal on Saturday, April 10th at Herty Primary to our Herty and Coston school families. Food will be ready to be served around 10:30 am. Come on out to Herty Primary for food and fellowship, Saturday, April 10th.
Kindergarten Graduation May 25th
Kindergarten students will have Graduation on May 25th. Graduation times for each class will be posted at a later date.
Virtual UIL Award Ceremony
Herty second graders recently competed in the UIL Competition with other Lufkin ISD primary schools. We have some winners with Alicia Mendoza winning 4th place in Creative Writing and a team of Emerson Villanueva, Jose Reyes, Daphne Rodriguez, Makayla Cuevas and Jasity Orta winning 6th place in Music Memory. Congratulations to all of our Herty kiddos that competed!
No School April 2, 2021
Lufkin schools will be closed Friday, April 2nd, for Good Friday.
Uniforms Not Required 2021-2022
School uniforms will not be required for the 2021-2022 school year.

Principal Jill Riggs pulled double duty mopping breakfast spills on Friday as we prepared for Spring Break. Lorita Davis surprised us with her secret recipe cake! If you’ve never had this cake, you are MISSING OUT!

First Baptist Church Feeds Herty Families
Lufkin’s First Baptist Church has generously supported Herty Primary over the last few years. On Monday, February 22nd, First Baptist Church served Herty families a hot meal to aide in recovering from winter storm URI. Additionally, they provided sacks of food. Thank you, First Baptist Church, for loving our school families.
Black History Month

Mask Up
Every student must wear a mask at school!
Mandatory Masks
Beginning Monday, February 15, 2021, all primary aged students must wear masks daily.
100 Book Club
2nd grade students were recognized for reading 100 Accelerated Reader books through the second nine weeks of school. These students were presented trophies by Principal Jill Riggs. Click on “read more” for more pictures of these fabulous readers.
