Angie Fuller
Angie Fuller is a difference maker. She works with students who have learning disabilities at Herty Primary in a Content Mastery class where every day she provides support to Kindergarten through 2nd grade children.
She said, “God put me here.”
With 19 years in education experience, Mrs. Fuller has spent the last three in her current position. She says it was meant to be because the previous Content Mastery teacher Cynthia Lewis retired and recommended her for the position.
She said, “I would come by and watch her class. When she retired, she recommended me because I showed interest. It fell in my lap. Then I had to test for a SPED certification.”
Mrs. Fuller’s love for teaching didn’t start in her earlier years, but after she became a para at Kurth Primary when her youngest son was in Kindergarten.
She said, “I have a degree in Advertising and Communication. I worked for the Pine Log at SFA (Stephen F. Austin State University). I sold ads.”
After she stayed home with her children for a while, she became a para and eventually got her certification after a colleague inspired her to do so.
Mrs. Fuller said, “Ann Hafernick played a very important role in my decision to become a teacher. She was so kind and made teaching look “easy”. She was passionate, patient and loving towards all our students and their families. She instilled these qualities in me and gave 100% to her job.”
During her teaching career, Mrs. Fuller spent time at Kurth Primary, Brookhollow Elementary and currently at Herty Primary. Mrs. Jill Riggs, principal at Herty Primary, is grateful to have her on her team.
Mrs. Riggs said, “Angie is truly a blessing to everyone around her. She has such a giving spirit and is always willing to lend a hand when needed. If there is an event and we need volunteers, she is there with a smile. She has a heart for her students and that passion shows when she is working with them. She is an advocate for their needs and does everything she can to help them succeed.”
Mrs. Fuller is originally from Pineland where she was a twirler and member of the yearbook staff at West Sabine High School. She met her husband of 33 years, Rusty, in high school and they have three adult children Chase, Demi and Sam. In her spare time, she loves to shop, read Mary Higgins Clark books and watch movies on Netflix. She enjoys teaching because of the camaraderie of the campus.
She said, “Granted, I’m here to teach, but I love my friendships here. We’re a Herty family.”
Angie Fuller was awarded Teacher of the Year for the 2019-2020 school year for the Herty Primary campus and every day it shows why she was awarded this accolade. Thank you, Mrs. Fuller, for making a difference.
