Thanks, PTO!

We are incredibly thankful for the many contributions of our Slack Parent/Teacher Organization!  Just over the last three years, Slack PTO has funded numerous opportunities for our students and staff including:

  • Helping to establish two new campus computer labs
  • Providing a ceiling mounted projector in the cafeteria
  • Furnishing PE athletic equipment and needed classroom supplies
  • Field trip funding across grade levels
  • Student achievement awards and reward recognitions
  • Hosting of on-site events for the campus and community
  • Providing scholarship opportunities for students demonstrating need
  • Appreciation events for staff members

It is only through the participation of our wonderful parent volunteers that these opportunities have been possible.  If you’ve not already joined Slack PTO, we would love to welcome you!   Please contact the school if you would like more information.

Greetings!

August 2, 2017

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year!  As the summer months come to a close, we are excited to know that our students will soon be returning. In anticipation, we are working hard to ensure the very best educational experience for every child!   Please see below for some beginning of the year notices and reminders.

INFOSNAP: All new and returning student registration updates are through our online registration system, “InfoSnap.” To access and update your child’s information, you will need your child’s unique “Snapcode.” This information was sent home to every family in May. If you misplaced your child’s “Snapcode,” please contact the Slack campus between the hours of 8:00-3:45, Monday through Friday.  InfoSnap updates must be completed before you receive your child’s schedule or before your child is allowed to attend classes, so please make sure to have this completed before our Meet the Teacher on August 14th (if you’ve not already done so).  If you do not have access to a computer, feel free to come by the campus for computer access and/or assistance.  We will have a computer lab available for your use on August 11th & 14th.  However, this process will take a few minutes, and we will have limited computer access, so please be prepared to wait.

SCHOOL BUS SIGN UP:  Will your child need bus transportation?  If so, bus registration is being held July 24th through August 8th from 7 AM to 4 PM at the Transportation Services Building. See enclosed flier for more details.

MEET THE TEACHER:  Come join us on Monday, August 14th from 4PM to 6PM.  InfoSnap registration must be completed before your child can receive his/her homeroom assignment.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL:  Our first day is scheduled for August 16th.  Students need to be here every morning by 7:30 AM for our morning assembly. The school day ends at 3:05 PM. We provide breakfast, free of charge, for all students in the school cafeteria from 7:10-7:40 AM. Students are released to go to their classrooms to start the instructional day at 7:40 AM.  Children not in their classrooms at 7:45 AM will be considered tardy.

As many of you know, Joyce Lane will be a one-way street during arrival and dismissal times. During “rush” hour, our traffic lane can be stressful. All drivers are required to pull to the curb nearest the building to drop off and pick up children.  For safety reasons, we ask parents who park in the front parking lot and walk their child to class to use the crosswalk and crossing guard provided by the school. No children are to be dropped off in the parking lot unless parents are walking their child to class.

Please feel free to come by, call us, or email anytime.  We value our partnerships with each of you, and we always welcome your questions, comments, or concerns.

Sincerely,

Danny Whisenant

Slack Elementary Principal
