During Governor Greg Abbott’s address to the state on Friday, he made the executive order to officially close school for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.

LISD Superintendent Lynn Torres said, “We will continue to provide meals and curriculum to our students throughout the month of May and will discuss with Mike Morath, the Commissioner of the Texas Education Agency, on how we will conduct our graduation. Although it saddens me that we will not have the chance to see our students again this school year, I agree with the governor that the safety and well-being of our staff and students is of the utmost importance. We are here for our students, and our teachers will continue to teach classes virtually and through our website LufkinLearns@Home that can be accessed at www.lufkinisd.org. Stay safe in the coming months, and we look forward to being together again in the coming school year.”
